Kedarnath Distance Chart — From Major Cities & Key Points
Two numbers do most of the planning work: Haridwar to Sonprayag is 235 km (8–9 hours — this is where your vehicle stops), and Gaurikund to the temple is 16 km on foot. Everything else is just getting to Haridwar. Road distances below are along the actual driving route, not straight-line:
Flights to Kedarnath — What You Can and Cannot Book
There is no airport at Kedarnath and no commercial flight lands there — anyone selling a "Kedarnath flight ticket" is selling either a Dehradun flight or a scam. What exists is a two-part air journey. First, a regular flight to Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun (DED) — IndiGo, Air India and SpiceJet fly in daily from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad, and fares from Delhi start around ₹3,000. Second, the helicopter shuttle from Phata, Sersi or Guptkashi helipads to the Kedarnath helipad, booked only on heliyatra.irctc.co.in after your yatra registration is done — roughly ₹7,500–9,500 round trip, weather permitting.
Between the airport and the helipad still sits a 7–8 hour road journey (Dehradun → Rishikesh → Guptkashi), which is why "flying to Kedarnath" in practice means: flight to Dehradun, cab up the valley, helicopter for the final hop. Our helicopter booking guide walks through the IRCTC slots, and the road leg is exactly what our Kedarnath package covers.
Nearest Railway Station to Kedarnath
No railway line goes anywhere near Kedarnath. The nearest station of any size is Rishikesh (approx. 216 km from Gaurikund), but Haridwar Junction (approx. 240 km) is what almost everyone actually uses — it has far better train connections from Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and Bengaluru, and every cab operator and package (including ours) starts there. From either station the journey is road to Sonprayag, shuttle to Gaurikund, then the 16 km trek.
Reaching Kedarnath from Bangalore, Mumbai & Other Metros
From Bangalore it is roughly 2,480 km — fly to Dehradun (Jolly Grant) or Delhi, then come by road or train to Haridwar. Flights to Dehradun save a full day versus the Delhi route. From Mumbai (~1,900 km) and Kolkata (~1,650 km), the same logic applies: fly or take an overnight train to Delhi/Haridwar, then join the road journey. Whatever metro you start from, the hill portion is identical — Haridwar to Gaurikund by road, then the trek — so plan two buffer days around it for delays and recovery.
