Delhi to Nainital cab
Fare, distance and the road itself — written by the people who drive it.

Fares and road notes on this page reviewed July 30, 2026.
Delhi to Nainital is the eastern run, and it is a completely different drive from the Mussoorie one — no expressway, just steady NH-9 through the western UP towns, then a climb from Haldwani that is short but properly steep. Seven to eight hours is realistic on a weekday and optimistic on a Friday evening, when half of Delhi appears to be doing the same road. The last hour, from Haldwani up through Bhimtal, is the good part, and it is worth timing your departure so you drive it in daylight.

Where you actually stop
The first two hours, and where the Delhi traffic finally thins out.
The brass city, and the standard breakfast or early lunch halt.
The last big town on the plains; the hills appear shortly after.
The foot of the climb, and where the railhead is if you ever want to do half of this by train.
Twenty-two km short of Nainital and worth an hour on its own.
Rules of the road up here
Hill routes in Uttarakhand run on rules that catch first-time visitors out. None of these are ours — they are the administration's, and they shape how the trip has to be planned.
This is a hill run outside the Char Dham corridor, so none of the yatra paperwork applies. What does apply is arithmetic: average speed on these roads is 25–30 km/h, not the 60 a map will assume, and the last stretch is single-lane in places. We quote the honest driving time rather than the optimistic one.
The vehicle for the Delhi–Nainital run
Delhi to Nainital stays on plains road the whole way, so the Ertiga or a sedan is usually the sensible booking — the surface never asks for more vehicle than that. All four are available.

Maruti Ertiga / Sedan
Nimble on the tighter corners above Uttarkashi. Less boot space, so pack in soft duffels rather than hard suitcases.
- Seats
- 4 + driver
- Luggage
- 2 large + 2 cabin bags
- Best for
- Couples and small families
- Availability
- Budget tier and couple packages
- AC in the plains
- Easy on narrow hill sections
- Lowest running cost
Cancellation, in plain terms
Plans change, and a 7–8 hrs mountain drive is the kind of thing weather rearranges. The Delhi–Nainital booking runs on the same terms as every other cab we send out.
We do not take payment online. Most bookings run on a small advance over UPI and the balance to the driver at the end of the trip, so there is rarely anything to refund. Full cancellation terms.
What our passengers say
Six days, all four dhams. One flight was held two hours for cloud at Kedarnath, which is nobody’s fault, and the team kept us updated and rebuilt the next day’s schedule to make it up. Four stars only because the Dehradun hotel on night one was the weakest link.
Solo woman traveller and I was honestly nervous. They put me with a small group of other solo pilgrims and a guide who checked in without hovering. Guptkashi hotel was clean and warm, food was simple and good. Going back for Badrinath next season.
Booked after comparing four operators. What sold me was that the person who answered the phone was the person who ran the trip. Hotels, vehicle and darshan slots were exactly as quoted. The Kedarnath trek support was the strongest part — our guide walked at my father’s pace the whole way and never once made it feel like a problem.
