Fares and road notes on this page reviewed July 30, 2026.

Delhi to Rishikesh is 240 km and, since the expressway opened, five to six hours of largely uninteresting driving — which is exactly what you want at the start of a yoga course or a rafting weekend. It is the run we are asked for most often by people who have decided the overnight train is not worth the sleep. The one thing worth knowing before you book: no vehicle crosses Ram Jhula or Laxman Jhula, so if your ashram or guesthouse is on the far bank, the drive ends at the bridge and the last few hundred metres are on foot.

Where you actually stop

Via: Delhi → Delhi–Meerut Expressway → Meerut → Muzaffarnagar → Roorkee → Haridwar → Rishikesh
Delhi–Meerut Expressway

The first hour out, and the reason this drive is no longer seven hours.

Muzaffarnagar

The standard breakfast halt on NH-334.

Roorkee

Fuel and tea, and the point where the Shivaliks come into view.

Haridwar

Twenty-five km short of Rishikesh; easy to add an hour here for the Har Ki Pauri aarti.

From our drivers: Leave Delhi by 6 AM if you want the Har Ki Pauri evening aarti on the same day with time to spare. Leaving at 10 AM puts you into Haridwar traffic at exactly the wrong hour and turns a five-hour drive into eight.
Before you book

Rules on this run

The Delhi–Rishikesh run stays in the plains, so the hill-route paperwork does not apply. What is worth knowing before you book:

Plains runs are a different job

Nothing above the valleys applies on this stretch — no Green Card, no night-driving ban, no yatra registration. It is an expressway run, so the variables that matter are toll charges, which are included, and the pickup window you choose.

The fleet

The vehicle for the Delhi–Rishikesh run

Delhi to Rishikesh stays on plains road the whole way, so the Ertiga or a sedan is usually the sensible booking — the surface never asks for more vehicle than that. All four are available.

Cancellation, in plain terms

Cancel free up to 48 hours before pickup.

Plans change, and a 5–6 hrs mountain drive is the kind of thing weather rearranges. The Delhi–Rishikesh booking runs on the same terms as every other cab we send out.

We do not take payment online. Most bookings run on a small advance over UPI and the balance to the driver at the end of the trip, so there is rarely anything to refund. Full cancellation terms.

Six days, all four dhams. One flight was held two hours for cloud at Kedarnath, which is nobody’s fault, and the team kept us updated and rebuilt the next day’s schedule to make it up. Four stars only because the Dehradun hotel on night one was the weakest link.

Solo woman traveller and I was honestly nervous. They put me with a small group of other solo pilgrims and a guide who checked in without hovering. Guptkashi hotel was clean and warm, food was simple and good. Going back for Badrinath next season.

Booked after comparing four operators. What sold me was that the person who answered the phone was the person who ran the trip. Hotels, vehicle and darshan slots were exactly as quoted. The Kedarnath trek support was the strongest part — our guide walked at my father’s pace the whole way and never once made it feel like a problem.
