Fares and road notes on this page reviewed July 30, 2026.

Worth understanding before you book: Nainital is in Kumaon and Haridwar is in Garhwal, and the two are not neighbours in any useful sense. There is no road across the middle of the state — you come down to the plains at Haldwani, run west along the foot of the hills, and come back up at Haridwar. Two hundred and sixty-five km, seven to eight hours, and none of it especially scenic after the first hour. Most people booking this are stitching a Kumaon week onto the start of a yatra, and it is a perfectly good way to do that as long as nobody is expecting a short hop.

The road

Where you actually stop

Via: Nainital → Bhimtal → Haldwani → Rampur → Moradabad → Najibabad → Haridwar
Bhimtal

Twenty-two km down, and the last of the lakes.

Haldwani and Kathgodam

The plains begin. Also the railhead, if half of this by train appeals.

Rampur and Moradabad

The long flat middle. Moradabad is the reliable food halt.

Najibabad

Where the road turns north again and the Shivaliks reappear.

From our drivers: If a Char Dham trip is what follows this drive, book the two as one journey rather than two. It costs less, and it means the vehicle that collects you at Nainital is the one that takes you up to the dhams — which matters more than it sounds when the luggage never has to move.
Before you book

Rules on this run

The Nainital–Haridwar run stays in the plains, so the hill-route paperwork does not apply. What is worth knowing before you book:

Plains runs are a different job

Nothing above the valleys applies on this stretch — no Green Card, no night-driving ban, no yatra registration. It is an expressway run, so the variables that matter are toll charges, which are included, and the pickup window you choose.

The fleet

The vehicle for the Nainital–Haridwar run

Nainital to Haridwar stays on plains road the whole way, so the Ertiga or a sedan is usually the sensible booking — the surface never asks for more vehicle than that. All four are available.

Cancellation, in plain terms

Cancel free up to 48 hours before pickup.

Plans change, and a 7–8 hrs mountain drive is the kind of thing weather rearranges. The Nainital–Haridwar booking runs on the same terms as every other cab we send out.

We do not take payment online. Most bookings run on a small advance over UPI and the balance to the driver at the end of the trip, so there is rarely anything to refund. Full cancellation terms.

The price I was quoted in February was the price I paid in May. After what I read about agent markups, that alone was worth it. Badrinath darshan was handled well and Tapt Kund before the 4:30 AM slot was something I will remember for a long time.

Three generations travelling together, and the pacing was right for all of us. Oxygen was on the vehicle and we needed it once, at Kedarnath, and it was there in under a minute. They arranged proper Tamil vegetarian food at two hotels on request, which I did not expect this far north.

Dr. Ganesh IyerChennai · Char Dham 11N/12D · June 2026 Verified traveller

Six days, all four dhams. One flight was held two hours for cloud at Kedarnath, which is nobody’s fault, and the team kept us updated and rebuilt the next day’s schedule to make it up. Four stars only because the Dehradun hotel on night one was the weakest link.
