Fares and road notes on this page reviewed July 30, 2026.

Ten to eleven hours from Dehradun to Joshimath is a long day, and it is one of the few routes on this site where we will tell you plainly that a same-day arrival is a poor plan unless your flight lands early. The road is good — down to Rishikesh, then the standard Alaknanda climb — but the length is unforgiving, and the last two hours above Chamoli are not where you want to be at dusk. Most Dehradun bookings for Joshimath are winter Auli trips, which is a different rhythm from the yatra season entirely.

Where you actually stop

Via: Dehradun → Rishikesh → Devprayag → Rudraprayag → Karnaprayag → Chamoli → Joshimath
Jolly Grant airport

Where most of these bookings begin. Flight tracked, name board at arrivals.

Rishikesh

The highway proper starts here, about an hour in.

Srinagar (Garhwal)

Lunch halt and the natural halfway point.

Karnaprayag

The Pindar confluence, and the last stretch begins.

Joshimath

The ropeway station and the base for Auli.

From our drivers: For a winter Auli trip, ask for the vehicle to be fitted for snow before you leave Dehradun. The road above Joshimath to the Auli slopes can need chains from January, and there is nowhere sensible to arrange them at 2,500 m.

Rules of the road up here

Hill routes in Uttarakhand run on rules that catch first-time visitors out. None of these are ours — they are the administration's, and they shape how the trip has to be planned.

Mountain roads, not highway hours

This is a hill run outside the Char Dham corridor, so none of the yatra paperwork applies. What does apply is arithmetic: average speed on these roads is 25–30 km/h, not the 60 a map will assume, and the last stretch is single-lane in places. We quote the honest driving time rather than the optimistic one.

Cancellation, in plain terms

Cancel free up to 48 hours before pickup.

Plans change, and a 10–11 hrs mountain drive is the kind of thing weather rearranges. The Dehradun–Joshimath booking runs on the same terms as every other cab we send out.

We do not take payment online. Most bookings run on a small advance over UPI and the balance to the driver at the end of the trip, so there is rarely anything to refund. Full cancellation terms.

Six days, all four dhams. One flight was held two hours for cloud at Kedarnath, which is nobody’s fault, and the team kept us updated and rebuilt the next day’s schedule to make it up. Four stars only because the Dehradun hotel on night one was the weakest link.

Solo woman traveller and I was honestly nervous. They put me with a small group of other solo pilgrims and a guide who checked in without hovering. Guptkashi hotel was clean and warm, food was simple and good. Going back for Badrinath next season.

Neha KapoorLucknow · Kedarnath 3N/4D · October 2025 Verified traveller

Booked after comparing four operators. What sold me was that the person who answered the phone was the person who ran the trip. Hotels, vehicle and darshan slots were exactly as quoted. The Kedarnath trek support was the strongest part — our guide walked at my father’s pace the whole way and never once made it feel like a problem.
