Fares and road notes on this page reviewed July 30, 2026.

The Sunday drive. Ninety minutes down the hill and then five and a half hours on the Delhi–Dehradun expressway, which since it opened has turned this from a grim nine-hour slog into something you can do after a leisurely breakfast. The catch is that everyone else has worked that out too, so the hill descent on a Sunday afternoon in season is the slowest part of the whole journey by some margin. Leaving Mussoorie in the morning rather than after lunch is worth more than any amount of expressway.

The road

Where you actually stop

Via: Mussoorie → Dehradun → Saharanpur → Shamli → Baghpat → Delhi
Dehradun

Bottom of the hill, and where the expressway run begins.

Mohand and the Rajaji stretch

Elevated road through the forest — the good-looking part.

Saharanpur

The usual food halt, roughly a third of the way in.

Baghpat and Shamli

Open expressway, and the fastest hour of the drive.

From our drivers: Leave by 9 AM on a Sunday in season. The Mussoorie descent between one and five in the afternoon is bumper to bumper with weekend traffic still coming up, and it can add two hours to a drive that is otherwise entirely predictable.
Before you book

Rules on this run

The Mussoorie–Delhi run stays in the plains, so the hill-route paperwork does not apply. What is worth knowing before you book:

Plains runs are a different job

Nothing above the valleys applies on this stretch — no Green Card, no night-driving ban, no yatra registration. It is an expressway run, so the variables that matter are toll charges, which are included, and the pickup window you choose.

The fleet

The vehicle for the Mussoorie–Delhi run

Mussoorie to Delhi stays on plains road the whole way, so the Ertiga or a sedan is usually the sensible booking — the surface never asks for more vehicle than that. All four are available.

Cancellation, in plain terms

Cancel free up to 48 hours before pickup.

Plans change, and a 7–8 hrs mountain drive is the kind of thing weather rearranges. The Mussoorie–Delhi booking runs on the same terms as every other cab we send out.

We do not take payment online. Most bookings run on a small advance over UPI and the balance to the driver at the end of the trip, so there is rarely anything to refund. Full cancellation terms.

Booked after comparing four operators. What sold me was that the person who answered the phone was the person who ran the trip. Hotels, vehicle and darshan slots were exactly as quoted. The Kedarnath trek support was the strongest part — our guide walked at my father’s pace the whole way and never once made it feel like a problem.

Eight of us, including my parents at 72 and 69. Palki was arranged for both at Kedarnath without any fuss. Ramesh bhai, our driver, was calm on roads that frightened me and knew every tea stop worth stopping at. Ground-floor rooms at every hotel, as promised.

The price I was quoted in February was the price I paid in May. After what I read about agent markups, that alone was worth it. Badrinath darshan was handled well and Tapt Kund before the 4:30 AM slot was something I will remember for a long time.
